Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI) is an injury that happen when too much stress is placed on any part of the body, resulting in inflammation (pain and swelling), muscle strain, or tissue damage.
Repetitive strain injury occurs when muscles and/or nerves become inflamed or irritated. It is caused by performing repetitive motions, using excessive force or using extreme movements.
RSI explained in layman terms is any injury caused due to repetitive activities without ergonomic care.
Repercussions of RSI
Repetitive stress injuries like carpel tunnel syndrome, neck stiffness and chronic back pain are becoming very common these days, especially among people who work on computers.
Period of pressure and stress, short or long, are part of everybody's life, whether caused by disturbing events (death in family), usual challenges (a new responsibility), or even happy changes (promotion or increments). You may not be aware of it but stress affects your body's ability to handle various kinds of foods.
